Site Preparation: Access to Site

Updated on Nov 24, 2024

Proper site preparation ensures the smooth delivery and installation of your Genio roaster. One of the first and most critical steps is confirming that the site is easily accessible for the machine to be safely transported and positioned in its final location.

Key Considerations for Site Access

  • Delivery by Truck:

    • All Genio roasters are delivered on a truck. Ensure that your site has sufficient space for the truck to park and unload the machine safely.
    • Consider the unloading area—ideally, it should be level, easily accessible, and free from obstructions.
  • Entrance Dimensions:

    • Ensure that doorways, hallways, and any other access points are wide enough to accommodate the roaster’s dimensions, including its crating.
    • If needed, remove temporary obstructions like doors or furniture to allow smooth entry.
  • Flooring:

    • For wooden floors, we recommend using a plywood cutout matching the roaster's footprint. This will distribute the load and prevent damage to your flooring.
  • Roaster Center of Mass:

    • Roasters are top-heavy due to the roasting drum. Exercise caution when lifting or moving the roaster, as they are prone to toppling over. Ensure that proper lifting equipment and techniques are used to minimize risks.
  • Pathways:

    • The path to the installation site should be clear of obstructions, including stairs, narrow passages, and uneven surfaces.
    • For multi-story buildings, check if an elevator is available and ensure it is large enough and has the load capacity for the roaster.
  • Outdoor Considerations:

    • If the machine must be delivered through outdoor spaces, ensure the path is free of mud, gravel, or steep inclines. Temporary ramps or reinforced pathways may be required.
  • Tools to Have on Hand:

    • Essential tools include a crowbar, work gloves, safety boots, appropriate PPE, wrenches, Allen keys, screwdrivers, and an electric drill with various bits to make uncrating faster and safer.

Typical Flow of Events

  • Arrival and Offloading:

    • The roaster will arrive on a truck and will need to be offloaded using a forklift. A pallet jack is insufficient for offloading the crate.
    • Once offloaded, the machine will typically be placed on the sidewalk or a similar accessible area.
  • Uncrating the Machine:

    • This is the ideal time to uncrate the machine. Make sure delivery is scheduled during daylight hours and avoids high-traffic times.
    • Ensure a clear workspace and have the necessary tools for removing the crate.
  • Moving the Machine:

    • Machines with wheels can be rolled into the space. Those without wheels will need to be moved using a pallet jack or by hiring professional riggers.
    • Suitable entryways are essential for seamless movement into the installation site.
  • Professional Assistance:

    • We highly recommend working with professional riggers to handle the uncrating and placement of the machine to avoid damage or injury.

Planning Ahead

  • Inform Genio:

    • Notify Genio in advance of your delivery date so that our team can clear schedules and be available for video call assistance during the delivery.
  • Insurance:

    • Arrange comprehensive insurance before delivery. This protects you in case the machine topples, causes injury, or results in property damage during delivery or installation.
  • Site Videos:

    • Send videos of your installation site to Genio in advance. This allows our team to provide suggestions and support to help the machine reach its final position without issues.
  • Measure and Confirm:

    • Measure all access points and pathways in advance to avoid surprises on the day of delivery.
  • Discuss with Genio:

    • Share photos or a detailed layout of your site with our team. We can help identify any potential challenges and recommend solutions.

Common Challenges

  • Narrow Doorways:
    • A frequent issue with older buildings or converted spaces. Solutions include using alternative entry points or partially disassembling the crate.
  • Stairs:
    • For sites with stairs and no freight elevator, professional rigging is a must to avoid damage or injury.
  • Limited Space:
    • Small spaces may require creative positioning or additional planning for machine placement.

Summary

Ensuring proper site access is essential for a smooth installation process. All Genio roasters arrive on a truck, so planning for unloading and transportation to the final site is critical. Following the typical flow of events and addressing potential challenges ahead of time will save time and prevent unnecessary delays. Inform Genio of your plans, prepare essential tools, and ensure insurance is in place for a hassle-free experience.
