Electrical Setup

Updated on Nov 24, 2024

A proper electrical setup is critical for the safe and efficient operation of your Genio roaster. Ensuring your electrical system meets the roaster's requirements and incorporates necessary protections will help safeguard your equipment and ensure uninterrupted roasting.

Key Considerations

Dedicated Circuit

  • All Genio roasters require a dedicated electrical circuit without an Earth Leakage Device.
  • Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) in the machine can trip standard Earth Leakage devices, making this a critical requirement.
  • Consult your machine’s technical documentation for specific electrical requirements.

Electrical Specifications

  • Smaller machines generally require single-phase 220V-240V power.
  • Larger machines require 380V 3-phase power.
  • Always consult a licensed electrician to ensure your setup meets the specifications.

Accessibility

  • Install a switch near the roaster to quickly disconnect the power supply in the event of a fire or lightning.

Sockets and Plugs

  • Your roaster will be shipped without a power connector, depending on the shipping destination.  You will need to provide your own power connector (or plug/adapter/socket) in accordance with your local codes.

Protecting Your Equipment

Lightning Protection

  • Lightning strikes can damage the computer boards in your roaster.
  • Install surge arrestors to protect sensitive components. Consult your electrician for advice on proper installation.

Power Disruptions

  • Power failures during roasting can result in lost batches and potentially damage electrical circuit boards.
  • If your area is prone to power outages or fluctuations, consider adding:
    • A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to bridge short power gaps.
    • An inverter to stabilize power and protect your equipment.

Backup Power Options

  • A generator will not switch on quickly enough to save a batch during an outage but can be useful for prolonged power disruptions when coupled with an inverter.
  • Solar Power Systems:
    • Adding a small solar setup with an inverter is a cost-effective way to lower energy bills while ensuring clean, stable power for your roaster.
    • This can provide confidence in the consistency and reliability of your roasting process.

Summary

A safe and reliable electrical setup is essential for the operation of your roaster. Proper planning, including lightning protection, backup power options, and surge protection, can prevent costly interruptions and equipment damage.
